Lesson 2 · FMEA Exercise
Failure Mode & Effects Analysis: Exercise
An in-class activity from the course slides — reproduced here so you can find it again after class.
📋 What to do
- Pick one technology from the list (mobile phone, coffee maker, infant bouncy chair, newborn onesie, toaster, scooter).
- Outline 3–5 potential failure modes.
- Assign rough scores 1–10 and calculate RPN.
- Copy the template and record your findings in the FMEA sheet (template — copy it, don’t edit the original).
- Work the FMEA with your group, then bring your sheet to the class discussion.
Online section: if you’re working ahead of or apart from a class session, work the FMEA solo (or with your homework team asynchronously) — the discussion step happens on Ed instead.
📮 Submit
Bring your FMEA sheet to the class discussion, then submit it on CANVAS (1 pt) — graded on completion.
Note: work from this page — it is where the activity and its links (slide decks, shared materials) are maintained, and details may still be refined before class. Submission happens on Canvas, and so do the due date and your grade.
