Activity: Code It (Create a GitHub Repository)

Your team sets up a shared GitHub repository and adds a collaborator. Estimated time: 10 minutes.

📋 What to do

  1. List your GitHub ID. If you do not have a GitHub account yet, go back to the Posit Cloud setup activity and follow the steps to create a GitHub account and link it to Posit Cloud.
  2. Create a GitHub repository, following the steps in this week's readings. Give it a simple name — preferably all lowercase, no spaces. One repository per team is enough, though you are welcome to make more if it helps.
  3. Find the URL of your repository. Paste it into the Canvas text box, and take a screenshot of the repository's main page.
  4. Add one team member as a collaborator. On GitHub, go to Settings › Collaborators and add a new member using their GitHub ID. If you cannot reach a teammate to get their ID, add your instructor instead — the instructor's GitHub ID is given on the Canvas assignment.
  5. Take a screenshot of the collaborators page after adding the member. You do not need to wait for them to accept the invitation.
  6. Paste a screenshot of each step into the Canvas text submission box.

📮 Submit

Submit on Canvas (1 pt) — graded on completion; your deadline is on the Canvas assignment.

Note: this page reproduces the activity instructions so you can find them again after class, and it is the version kept current — surveys, slide decks and helper links are updated right here. Submit on Canvas; the due date and your grade live there.
